Mini formats possess a special concentration. On a small surface, color, structure and painterly movement condense into very precise pictorial spaces. It is precisely in these small works that the immediate character of the painting becomes especially visible.
Many of these works emerge as studies, experiments or independent small compositions in the studio. Layers of paint, fragments and spontaneous movements often remain directly visible and lend the works a particular immediacy.
Mini formats can function as a single small artwork or, when hung in groups, create new visual relationships.
For orientation: this category includes works with a size of up to and including 100 centimetres. At this scale, highly concentrated pictorial spaces emerge in which colour and structure become particularly precisely perceptible. Smaller formats in particular invite you to move closer to the painting and discover the painterly details directly.
The concentration of small formats
In the small format, the painting condenses in a special way. Every trace, every movement of color, and every structure gains greater significance within the composition.
Mini formats in my series
Small formats appear in several of my series, for example in Field of Mars, in reduced works from Out of the Light, or in structural explorations within other groups of works such as Remnants of an Experiment.
